Ski Season Fuel

In ski towns across America, skiers and snowboarders are tuning their equipment in anticipation of opening day. Our local ski area, Steamboat Resort, is set to open on November 23rd, and we are just as excited!

Anyone who has gone snow skiing can attest to the physical demands of the sport. According to Harvard Health, a “185lb person burns 532 calories per hour of skiing”. This means if you ski from 8:30AM to 11AM, you will have burned roughly 1,300 calories. If you want to keep your day of skiing going, you will need to replace some of those burned calories to keep your body fueled. Sweetwood’s slow smoked Meat Snacks are a great option for a quick, healthy snack that will keep you alert and sustained on the hill.

Protein is essential to your body after a sustained work out lasting 45 minutes or longer. According to Precisionnutrition.com, “post workout nutrition requires protein and carbohydrates”. Additionally, “You could certainly eat a whole food meal that meets these requirements after exercise, but whole food meals aren’t always practical”. You might not want to take an hour lunch break in your ski day to refuel, so having a high protein snack, like Sweetwood Meat Snacks in your pocket is essential. You can rip open a bag of jerky and consume 18g of protein in the time it takes to ride the lift to the top of your favorite run.

The 1oz Fatty Meat Stick and Bully Beef Bar are also great options. With 7g of protein and about 100 calories in each perfect pocket-sized snack, you’ll never head to the hill without one! But, if you do forget to bring your favorite Sweetwood Meat Snacks with you on the hill, here’s a list of ski resorts that have Sweetwood products available for purchase.

• Steamboat Resort
• Telluride
• Monarch Mountain
• Ski Cooper
• Alta Ski Resort
• Winter Park Resort

Now that you know the secret to extending your ski days, get out on the hill with some Sweetwood Meat Snacks and send it!
